It is summer where you are
and it is sunny most of the time here in the rainforest. It rains once a day
every few days so we also are experiencing “summer” here in the Amazon. What a
year so far! I left the States prepared to work and minister but, God had other
plans. For more than ten years I have not been able to have a complete physical
check up due to the fact that I had no health insurance. Most of the time I was
in the States I was sick with a bad cold this past winter. It left me with a
pain in my chest that at times was worse or other times less noticeable. When I
arrived in Leticia I immediately began to work teaching English classes,
swimming classes, studying Portuguese and attending the RHEMA Bible
institute. For the first time since I
have been working in Colombia, the new covering that God has placed me under
focused on helping me get Colombian health insurance, I now have
insurance! Just in time! The Word of God
says that by His stripes we were healed. Over the years I have claimed this
word especially since I did not have insurance but, the week after having
received the confirmation of the health insurance all the pain in my chest sent
me to the emergency. Pneumonia was the diagnostic report. For the next 2 months I spent recuperating and, the doctors
began to put me through every kind of test since I had not had a complete
physical in more than 10 years. They begin saying that I was at risk for this
thing or that thing because of my age. They wanted to give me medicine and one
doctor wanted to operate on me. I had to
claim the Word of God. He would not have me to come to Colombia to die! I am
here to live and to spread the Word of Life here in the Amazon. I had to stand
up to the doctors and say “No!” I may be
at risk but, I do not have whatever sickness they wanted to put on me. The one doctor
that wanted to operate to prevent cancer of the uterus was surprised that I
would point blank ask him if I had cancer. He had to say the truth “no.” So, I
told him “No!” All the test came back negative. There was only one change with
the heart specialist. He concluded that
I appeared to be very healthy and that I
should keep swimming. They will do one more test in September but, I appeared
to be very well. AMEN!!
Many of you know that I have
had trouble with my knees and my right foot. The exams done by the orthopedic
doctor did reveal that I will have to have surgery on my right foot and
probably a replacement on my left knee where there is no padding between the
bones. I believe I know how a racing car “feels” when it pulls into the pit
stop and gets checked out, fine tuned, a change of tires and sent on to finish
the race. Thank God for insurance that covers everything, Thank God for a body
that can be healed. And, thank God that He is my Sponsor and has given me all
that I need to complete what He has called me to do! (Phil. 4:13)
